Sonali Kulkarni releases her articles as a book

Sonali Kulkarni received thousands of mails for her editorial columns, which inspired her to take writing seriously. She launched her book, So Kul, yesterday, March 2 — a compilation of a hundred and one Marathi articles she penned for a newspaper from 2005 to 2007.

“I’ve rewritten some articles because they had to be updated,” she says. The tone of the book is chatty and reflects upon her personality. Kulkarni has written about women’s issues but is not keen to be labelled a feminist: “I’ve given equal importance to men as well. Why should I be called feminist?” The actor is excited about the offers for the English and Hindi translations of her book. “I’m considering them, let’s see.”

Kulkarni is proud of the films she’s done in Marathi, which is also her mother-tongue. “Gabricha Paus and Gandha are doing rounds of international festivals. I’m inundated with compliments. Once, Marathi actors would feel low if they took on a Marathi film. The scenario is changing now. Why should I feel shy about acting in a film in my mother tongue,” she reasons.
