Sahitya Sabha plea to Unesco

The Asam Sahitya Sabha is planning to apply to Unesco for recognition as the world’s largest literary organisation.

The sabha on Sep 9 also announced the progress of projects that it had undertaken.

Various district units that were defunct are now being revived by the sabha.

“We are trying to bridge the gap between the Brahmaputra Valley and the Barak Valley through literary and cultural exchange programmes. Strong action against some fake literary organisations in the state are being taken, as they are bringing a bad name to the sabha. Our emphasis is to have internal discipline and accountability in the organisation,” said the general secretary of the sabha, Paramanada Rajbangshi.

The organisation has also completed the groundwork to set up a branch office in New Delhi.
