IU donating library to Indian univ


Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie announced today (Sept. 2) that IU will donate a 12,000-volume research library of political science books, journals and reference materials used for decades by faculty and students to India's O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU).

Last year, IU entered into a wide-ranging collaboration agreement with the private university located just outside New Delhi in Haryana. A key component of the agreement is JGU's interaction with two of IU's professional schools, the Maurer School of Law and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

McRobbie made the announcement during the first IU/JGU international conference, part of an 11-day official visit to India.

Haryana to establish Sahityik Chikitsa Kalyan Kosh

Haryana Government has decided to set up a ‘Sahityik Chikitsa Kalyan Kosh’ for providing medical facilities to the recipients of State Litterateur Awards.

This was announced by Education Minister Mrs. Geeta Bhukkal on behalf of Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda on the occasion of Sahityakar Samman Samaroh here today. The Chief Minister could not attend the function because of his other pressing engagements.

Mrs Bhukkal also announced to give Rs. 10 lakh for the creation of the ‘Sahityik Chikitsa Kalyan Kosh’.She also honoured 33 litterateurs for the year 2008, 2009 and 2010 under the Litterateur Award Scheme of Haryana Sahitya Akademi.

While referring to the issue of setting up of a Granth Akademy to preserve Granths and manuscripts raised by Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Mr K.K.Khandelwal in the function, the Education Minister said that she would discuss it with the Chief Minister.

Congratulating the litterateurs on the occasion of Hindi Day, Mrs. Bhukkal said that they have created various forms of literature through continuous hard work and dedication. She said that during the tenure of last five-and-a-half years of present State Government, the Akademi had made commendable achievements under the able leadership of Mr Hooda. She said that the State Government had not only increased the number of awards, but had also enhanced the amount of awards. The State Government had implemented innovative schemes for empowerment of women and to give honour to the women in literature world, separate awards had been introduced for them.

Haryana Sahitya Akademi awards announced

Haryana Sahitya Akademi has announced awards for the outstanding litterateurs of the State for the year 2010.

While disclosing this here on Sep 10, the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who is also the Chairman of the Akademi, said that the outstanding litterateurs would be honoured in a function to be organised at Haryana Niwas on the occasion of Hindi Day on September 14.

The Akademi had instituted three new awards of Rs one lakh each, namely Jan Kavi Mehar Singh Samman, Shreshtha Mahila Rachnakar Samman and Aditya Alhar Hasya Samman from the year 2010, he added.
The Chief Minister said that Haryana Sahitya Ratan Samman of Rs 2.50 lakh would be conferred upon Mr Liladhar Viyogi of Ambala, Mahakavi Surdas Samman (Hindi) of Rs 1.50 lakh would be awarded to Mr Madhav Kaushik of Chandigarh and Babu Balmukund Gupt Samman (Hindi literature) of Rs one lakh would be awarded to Dr Subhash Rastogi of Chandigarh.

Mr Desh Nirmohi of Panchkula and Mr Kamlesh Bhartiya of Hisar would be honoured with Lala Deshbandhu Gupt Samman (Sahityik Patrakarita) and each of them would get a cash prize of Rs one lakh, he added.

Haryana Sahitya Akademi invites applications

Haryana Sahitya Akademi has invited applications  from writers of Haryana domicile and literary institutions of the state for awards under various literary schemes citing their contribution in the literary field.

A spokesman of the Akademi said that applications have been invited to confer Haryana Sahitya Ratan Samman, Mahakavi Surdass Samman, Bal Mukund Gupt Samman (Hindi Literature), Lala Desh Bandhu Gupt Samman (Literary Magazine), Pt. Lakhmi Chand Samman, Jan Kavi Mehr Singh Samman, Haryana Gaurav Samman, Aditya-Alhad Hasya Sammn and Shreshth Mahila Rachnakar Samman to the litterateurs of the state.

The last date to receieve the applications for these awards has been fixed as May 15, 2010. He said that the Sahitya Akademi has also fixed May 31, 2010 as the last date for receiving the applications for the Pustak Puraskar Yojna for the books published in the year 2009, Hindi Kahani Competition, financial assistance for book publication and for publication of Writers Directory.

Hooda learning Punjabi

With Haryana having declared Punjabi the second language of the state, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda is himself learning the neighbouring state's language.

Hooda, who was speaking in Punjabi, Sunday, March 28 said he was now trying to learn how to read and write this 'wonderful language which is spoken not only within India, but also in several other countries from Pakistan to Canada'.

Addressing a gathering organised by the Haryana Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee at Pipli near Kurukshetra, 110 km from here, to honour him for declaring Punjabi the second language of Haryana, Hooda said Punjabi had an important place as a language in the country.

Bhandri wins Haryana Punjabi Gaurav Puruskar

Haryana Punjabi Sahitya Akademi has announced annual awards for excellence in Punjabi, the literary for the year 2009-2010.

While stating this here Tuesday, March 10, Akademi Director, CR Moudgil said that Haryana Punjabi Gaurav Puruskar comprising Rs 1.25 lakh would be conferred to Sukhchain Singh Bhandri of Sirsa and  Bhai Santokh Singh award comprising Rs 1 lakh would be given to Dr. Rattan Singh Dhillon, Ambala Cantt.

He said that similarly, the Baba Sheikh Farid award and Sant Taran Singh Vehimi award of Rs.51,000 each would be given to Dr. Charanjit Kaur of Chandigarh and Dr. Sudarshan Gaso of Amabla Cantt  respectively. Besides this, Raagi/Dhaadi Lok Gayak award comprising of Rs.21,000 would be given to Naresh Kumar (Bittu Shahpuri).
