'Marathi should be made mandatory'

Cutting across party lines, political leaders on Sunday observed that it is the need of the hour to make the use of the Marathi language compulsory. It was also observed that the promotion of the language both at the government and societal level is a must for its survival.

These views of the leaders were expressed at the All India Marathi Literary Meet during a seminar on ‘Making Marathi compulsory is the need of the hour.’

Representatives of the Congress, the BJP, the Shiv Sena, the NCP and the MNS shared the dais along with noted critic Sudhir Rasal while retired Chief Justice of the Bombay high court Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari chaired the seminar. The discussion was moderated by Sudhir Gadgil.
