Mono act marks 25 years of ‘Sri Radha'

When eminent poet and former bureaucrat Ramakanta Rath penned the long, modern classic poem of love and desolation ‘Sri Radha' 25 years ago in 1985, he had never thought that it would be enacted one day and that too with the best of stagecraft.

Though the famous poem has been translated into several languages, staging it through a spellbinding performance turned out to be a rare occurrence in the world of Odia literature leaving mesmerized not only the art and poetry lovers of the twin city but also the poet himself, who were all carried away by the impeccable and inimitable theatrical expression of the transcendental sense of pathos, love and romance depicted in the poem.

Hundreds of people thronged to watch the rare mono-act performance of ‘Sri Radha' by noted writer and filmmaker Biyot Projna Tripathy under the able direction of eminent theatre exponent Ananta Mohapatra at two separate cultural programmes held in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recently.
