Disney Online Studios, a part of Disney Interactive Media Group, on Sep 14 announced the option to purchase its Club Penguin membership in Indian currency.Club Penguin is a snow-covered online playground, which is enjoyed by children and families in more than 190 countries around the globe.
This online virtual world is free to play, but offers additional benefits to those who purchase subscription memberships, Disney Online Studios' Asia-Pacific Head, Robb Beeston, told reporters here. "Club Penguin, a virtual world where children can play games, have fun and interact. Concept of virtual world is growing in India. We intend to tap children residing in metros as they are well versed with Internet," he said.
"Given its steady growth throughout India, Club Penguin has launched the option to purchase memberships in Indian Rupees, at Rs 199 per month," he added.There is no third-party advertising in the virtual world of Club Penguin, and that no-ads policy as well as the cost of a large team of trained moderators and support staff is maintained by the revenue from membership sale, he said.
