Muslim writer inspires India project

A collaboration which began as a play based on the work of a Muslim feminist writer, has now become a project with students in India.

The play, Rokeya’s Dream, was created through the work of students at Rose Bruford College in Sidcup, TARA Arts a cross-cultural theatre project, and South East London Bangaldeshi Women’s group, which meets in Eltham. After word of the play reached India, the work has now developed into The Rokeya Project, and resulted in an invitation from the Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata.

On Monday (15th) five members of the team responsible for the play flew to India to work with the university’s students and look at western responses to Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain and the play and at how other communities can react to the material.
