Walito chairs Bijapur Kannada meet

Renowned folklorist Mallikarjun Ningappa Wali will preside over the 11th Bijapur district-Level Kannada literary meet scheduled for two days this weekend at Basavana Bagewadi.

Wali, born on June 10, 1935, at Salotagi village in Indi taluk, was awarded PhD in 1985 from Karnatak University for his thesis titled `Simpi Linganna - Life and literature'. He joined the government service as a primary school teacher in 1960 and retired as principal of Shivanand College in Kagawad after serving the education field for over 33 years.

Wali has written over 50 on various subjects and established his own publication house Sri Bhuvaneshwari Prakashana here. Besides being honoured at various literary meets, several organizations have given him titles like Basava Jyoti, Suvarna Kannadiga, Janapada Jangama and Vishwa Chetana.
