A proposal for approaching noted art director Thota Tharrani to design the children’s section at the Peraringar Anna Centenary Library at Kotturpuram was mooted at a recent high-level meeting of the officials involved in the project.
“We are looking at constructing an artificial tree in the centre of the children’s section with grass around it. So it was decided to approach Thota Tharrani to do the same. Our officials will be contacting him soon,” G Arivoli, Director of Public Libraries told Express.
School Education Minister Thangam Thenarasu, who presided over the meeting, gave the go-ahead for the idea. While the library construction work is in full swing, officials say the inauguration will happen in June. “The library will be fully automated - right from issuing books to cataloguing etc. We are also going to have space for a scholar hostel wherein research scholars from out of Chennai can come and stay for research. There are plans of a amphitheatre and a food court as well,” library officials said.
