Now, Kannada books mela every year

The Kannada books mela could be an annual affair at the cultural hub of Mysore.

Buoyed by the response from Mysoreans to the just-concluded Kannada Pustakotasava, the Kannada Books Authority is planning to host the exhibition every year. The five-day mela that ended on Sunday had some 1.5 lakh visitors. What's more, the total sale was Rs 1.65 crore.

This is also a pointer to the growing interest among the readers about Kannada publications. "There is now a demand that the mela be hosted annually and we are open to the suggestion. We will examine it seriously and will come back here," Authority chairman Siddalingaiah told reporters. The response was more than expected and the publishers too are happy, he stated
